What We Do  
  • Educate landlords and tenants of their rights and responsibilities under the rent control laws


  • Provide information on rent controlled dwellings


  • Process and adjudicate rent increase applications


  • Register and endorse rent increase agreement notices


  • Inspect rental dwellings


  • Review individual rent increase objections in consultation with the Rent Increases Advisory Panel


  • Investigate allegations of rent overcharges


  • Hear and rule on undesirable tenant cases


  • Mediate rental disputes


  • Present public education workshops on the rent control and landlord and tenant acts


  • Make referrals to other government agencies and private organizations in the community
Rent Increases Advisory Panel  

In accordance with Section 31 of the Rent Increases (Domestic Premises) Control Act 1978, the Minister responsible for rent control shall appoint a Panel of not less than five persons, to be known as the Rent Increases Advisory Panel. 

The purpose of the Panel is to provide advice and guidance to the Rent Commissioner in those cases in which he is required to consult with the members thereof.  Persons appointed to the Panel shall hold office at the pleasure of the Minister.
